To keep the lens intact, use gentle and mild solutions. If by chance the lens is greasy then a steady breath followed by a gentle rub is sufficient. There are also many chemical solutions available with the local chemists which are quite effective in cleaning the lens.
If you use normal or plastic glasses then a quick dip in the water is enough followed by thorough wiping with a linen cloth. If you are using spectacles with the anti-reflection coating then do not clean them with a detergent or water. This will affect the coating thus making it difficult for you to use the spectacles.
Most of the people using spectacles feel uncomfortable about the nosepads. Generally, they are made of material which resists dirt. But, it may again get collected with due course of time. In such a case, remove the nosepads and soak them overnight in water. This will make them germ and dirt free.
