* Get hold of your high school diploma or your GED. This is the minimum requirement for you to get a job as a fiber optics technician.
* Enroll yourself at the local community college to pursue a 2-year electrical services program. It would help you grab better opportunities.
* Indulge yourself in to various courses that are related to fiber optics. For example expanded knowledge in technical mathematics would lend you with a better understanding on the whole.
* Employ yourself in to taking an introductory course in fiber optics while you pursue your degree. Thus, you would be able to better understand the transmission of light and be able to employ it on job. You would also b able to judge the problems better and thus get a better understanding.
* Do not limit yourself. Pursue higher courses in optic hardware so that you get a better understanding of the various advanced problems and their respective solutions. It will also help you learn the design of the fiber optic cable systems in a better way.
* While selecting a course and an institute for yourself make sure that you only go for the ones that are recommended by the Electronics technicians Association. You could also go for the various online institutes.
* Even if you get an entry level position in to an organization, take it. Usually, you are most likely to be expected to take on the job training for the starting 3 years at least. If at all you wish to by pass this step then complete your associate's degree.
* Make sure you have your driver's license in p[lace since the job requires you to travel out often. Also, you must get for yourself an FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL).
